Hurghada was once a small fishing village but has grown into a lively, exciting holiday resort on the shores of the Red Sea.

In Hurghada total tourism comes alive, offering everything for sun lovers, swimmers and divers.

A stretch of 20 km of beach hotels, bars restaurants and shops. Hurghada means sun, sea and fun.

To the north, lies the place that is closest to being a town,

Dahar, which has more than half of the total local

population, and the the most price worthy hotels and

restaurants.

A couple of kilometres south, comes Sekala, a place

that suffers from being between Dahar and New Hurghada

a few kilometres more to the south.

 

Customs formalities
You will need a valid international passport and a visa.

Check this with your Travel Agency. It is possible to buy

your visa in the airport of Hurghada. Price: ±  15 $. The passport must still be valid for at least 6 months
after departure from Egypt.

 

Currency
The Egyptian pound. Most hotels also accept credit cards.

It is possible to pay in euros or dollars also.

Temperature
In Hurghada the sun shines practically the whole year

round. Particularly in spring and autumn the temperature

is very pleasant. During the summer months,

the temperature can rise till 40°.
It is advisable to seek the shade, particularly at midday.

Remember always to carry a bottle of water  with you.

You can buy them almost everywhere.

In the evening and during the night the temperature can
drop sharply, but in summer the evenings will stay hot.

El Gouna A new tourist town 25  km north of Hurghada It has grown into a marvellous holiday resort build between the mountains and the shores of the Red Sea.

Soma Bay is a coastal resort on the Red Sea , 45 kilometers South from Hurghada.

Sahl Hasheesh 18km from Hurghada international airport. A new touristic town under development.
Safaga, also know as Port Safaga, located 60 km south from Hurghada  is a small tourism Town, excellent for diving!

Language
The official language is Arabic, but English is spoken

practically everywhere.

 

Health

Your health is important. Check in your country which

injections you should get.

Consider vaccinations against: Hepatitis A, Typhoid,

Yellow Fever and Tetanus.

Be aware of the heat and sun and take precautions

such as drinking lots of fluids and wearing sun lotion.
One should also stay with cooked foods and bottled

water, to avoid as much as possible the "Curse of the

Pharaoh" = stomach problems. If you do get problems

check the pharmacy. They are common with these stomach problems and know what to give you.

Transportation

Through the whole city you find the minibuses. Just raise your hand and they will stop. For 1 pound p.p they

bring you to your destination. Do not pay more.

If you want to go a little bit further the price can rise up.
